Last Sunday we had a banquet to attend to close out the end of the football season for the team that Brandon coaches for. Here's my outfit for that event:

I finally got the adapter put on the City Mini so that we could try out the Chicco Keyfit with it. How exciting is that?! I obviously pushed it around the house like every sane person would do ;) Hahaha!!

I'm hoping to accomplish a TON of stuff this weekend! B will be in DC all weekend for a football game so I have to keep myself entertained with something. I have started a to-do list and I definitely don't think I'll be sitting around the house bored this weekend :) I'm hoping to knock out some Christmas shopping, wrap lots of presents, organize the nursery (between gifts and things we've bought... the nursery is seriously out of control!), finally start writing thank you notes for both of our baby showers, and maybe doing a closet clean out. I've done this many times recently but I keep finding stuff that doesn't fit anymore and there is just NO reason to keep that stuff in there. I keep forgetting what does and doesn't fit so that crap needs to go. So I will definitely be busy this weekend!!

camera help

I need some camera advice. I think we might be receiving a very very generous Christmas gift from my parents this year :) A Nikon DSLR. But here is the thing.... I am a beginner. As in, I pretty much only use my iphone to take pictures. I don't even know how to hold a DSLR. So I don't know what to ask for!! I have pretty much decided on a Nikon over other brands but I'm not totally 100% set, so feel free to recommend something different if your favorite happens to not be a Nikon.

I need help!!

What camera should I ask for? Remember that we are beginners and are starting with absolutely no photography knowledge. But we also don't want something that we'll be "over" too soon, you know?

I have some blog questions for you.

Do you have your own domain? Did you do it through blogger? Is there something better than blogger that I should be using? Wordpress? I don't even know what questions to ask about this. I want to get my blog organized, cleaned up and running properly. I would love to figure out why some people can't comment. And I need to fix my google analytics.

I also want a REAL name for my blog.. not just mrs.mfc. That is a fine name for me- but not for the blog. So the hard part- what in the world do I want my blog to be named? I certainly need to figure it out before I can move forward with buying a domain. Do you have any ideas for creative names for my blog? It is definitely going to stay like it is now- my personal blog. Talking about my day to day life, our family, our home, shopping, crafts- you know the type. More of the same, but definitely changing because I'm going through major life changes as we're getting ready to add a baby to the mix. The only ideas I could come up with was something like Creating Our Forever, or Building our ______, or .... I don't know. No creative juices. Can't think. Help me!! Anything?

dollar tree ornaments

Have a mentioned in previous years that I love love love to buy Christmas ornaments at the dollar tree? You can definitely buy junk at the dollar tree but there are certain things (Christmas ornaments!!!!!) that you should absolutely buy there!

A week or two ago I heard that the first of the ornaments had been spotted. So obviously I headed there immediately to see what I could find :)

I have a feeling that now that Halloween is over, they will be adding tons more Christmas items very very soon. Here are some pictures of my first batch of purchases of the season. There are sure to be many many more :)

You'll notice they are all red and bright green. Last year I did a total tree make-over on our main tree (yes, we have multiple Christmas trees...) and our colors are red and bright green. I LOVED the tree last year and I'm definitely excited to use that theme again.

Have you purchased any Christmas decorations at the dollar tree? Any other hidden gems I should check out??

october birchbox

I'm finally getting around to posting about my October Birchbox!! I have to say, at first I was a little bummed when I opened this month's box. I had heard what other people were receiving and was a bit sad when I didn't receive the same things. BUT it still isn't a bad box. Here is what I got:

I haven't tried the hair mask yet but I am really excited about it!! And seriously- the Ahava foot cream is the most amazing foot cream I've ever tried! I used it the other night after soaking my tired feet in my foot bath and oh.my.goodness that foot cream made them so so soft!!

Have you started thinking about Christmas cards yet? I sure have!! Being so busy with baby stuff, I am definitely already thinking about the holidays and trying to figure out what I can do now to make things less hectic later on.

A perfectly timed purchase since today B and I are celebrating our anniversary! It has been two years since we got married! It seriously seems like it happened last week!! I guess a lot has happened since then, though. :)

Happy Tuesday!! The long weekend is completely confusing me this morning!! So glad that it is already Tuesday- and even more excited to know that I am off this Friday too so I only have to work today and then two more days :) B and I are both taking Friday off to do some baby stuff around the house.. mainly getting the nursery cleared out and prepped to paint (so we have somewhere to put all the stuff I am ordering online!!!!!)

Let's get down to business. The belly! Today I am 23 weeks 3 days. Here is the belly shot:

Growing quite a bit, wouldn't you say?

Guess what we did over the weekend??! Registered!! I'll definitely be doing some editing over the coming weeks/months but they are basically done! So happy to have that done. And it couldn't be better timing since we have our first shower in one month!! How is time going by so fast? Little guy will be here in no time!!

Speaking of the little guy- he now has a name!! We aren't ready to share it with everyone yet, but he has a name :) So happy!!

I mentioned earlier that I've been doing a lot of shopping online. Ohhhhh goodness lots of shopping! This week I expect the following to arrive: rocking chair, ottoman, slip covers for both, lots of goodies from Erin Condren, and some stuff from Amazon. Next week I'm hoping my order from Pottery Barn Kids will start arriving- bedding and a huge rug. I can't wait for all this stuff to arrive so I can share pictures!! I also have paint colors picked out and I'll be sharing those soon too. As you can tell, we've been staying busy busy busy!

hair update

In all of the excitement surrounding yesterday's big news, I completely forgot to update you on the hair appointment I had Tuesday evening.

In this post I shared some pictures that I found on pinterest. It seems that I was quickly becoming obsessed with bangs. Who knew?

Here is a before shot. {ignore the gross backdrop... nasty out-of-date-office-building-bathroom}But please notice two things. 1) my white trash roots. I wouldn't color my hair after I found out I was pregnant.. that is the result. And 2) the length!! Woah long hair!

BOY!!!!

This has been the craziest morning! I am not even sure I can function enough to put together a blog post but I'm going to try my best :)

So we had our ultrasound at 7:30 this morning. No question about it- we're having a BOY!!

Everything is measuring perfectly, all parts seem to be working properly, and our BOY seems to be

perfectly healthy!

Pregnancy update: everything is awesome and great :) We find out the sex on WEDNESDAY! Yay!

But let's bring it back to me. And my hairrrr. I have an appointment on Tuesday to finally get my massive head of hair tamed. I stopped coloring it when I found out I was pregnant and my roots are hideous. HIDEOUS. So we're taking it back to dark brown. Super low maintenance. Also getting it cut... but that leads to my dilemma. I have NO idea what I want! I'm thinking layers. And bangs (??!??!). What do you think? Here are some pictures I'm drawn to from Pinterest.

Hey girls! Hope everyone is doing great! I'm falling behind in blogging yet again. I owe you a belly shot, that's for sure!!

16 week update

Hey!! Oops it is already Wednesday and I am just now getting around to posting my 16 week update! So this is more of a 16w4d update :)

We had a doctor's appointment this morning. Totally boring. Appointments without ultrasounds are pointless. Hahaha!! But joking aside, everything looked great. I still haven't gained any weight, my blood pressure was perfect, and the baby's heart rate sounded good (147 bpm).

The most exciting thing? We scheduled our BIG ULTRASOUND!! Exactly four weeks from today we will know if we're having a baby boy or baby girl!! We can't wait!

Do you have a guess? I hope so! I've just added a poll (top left column) for everyone to vote. Baby boy or baby girl??? I'm leaving the poll open through 9/20. Bright and early on 9/21 we'll find out the answer!! SO EXCITED!!

See this little packet of lemonade kool-aid? Did you know you can use it to clean your dishwasher? YEP! They say so right here in Real Simple! Apparently it is the citric acid that does all the dirty work.

So now that I have used kool-aid to clean my dishwasher, I'm starting to wonder how I can clean out other things. My washing machine, specifically. Does anyone have a trick for that? I have done a bit of research but haven't decided what to try. Here are directions for using vinegar or lemon juice.

15 week update

How far along: 15 weeks 2 days

Size of baby: approximately 4 inches and about 2.5 oz. Around the size of a naval orange!

Total weight gain/loss: I'm not really sure about my weight. I haven't noticed a difference on my home scale but I'll find out for sure next week at my appointment.

Sleep: I'm sleeping much better. I'm finding it easier to get comfortable quicker and I think the quality of sleep is better. Still getting up lots for trips to the bathroom though :)

Best moment of the week: We've started playing music for the baby :) I plan to make a playlist of nice quiet relaxing songs to play throughout the pregnancy so that hopefully the baby will remember it and be soothed by it after he/she is born. It's worth a try! :)

Movement: I don't think so. I possibly felt one little thing... but I don't really think it was movement. I'm thinking I'll probably know it when I feel it? From what I've read it could start any minute now so I am really really excited about this!!

Food cravings: I've been wanting sugary sweet fruity things... popsicles, starbursts, cherry icees, etc.I had starbursts last night and it was magical! Ahhh the small thrills in life :)

Gender: I'm still leaning towards girl. Although, I did have my first boy-baby dream last week! Actually it was TWIN boys!! Hahaha!! I think B is starting to think it might be a girl too. Who knows!

Labor signs: Nope!

Belly button in or out: In

What I miss: Nothing really. Oh wait, I have one. I miss sneezing without worrying I'm going to pee a little bit. Yep, I said it.

What I'm looking forward to: Right this very moment I am most excited about getting started on planning the nursery!! My mom has agreed to make custom crib bedding (along with a few other things) and I am thrilled!!! As soon as we find out if we're decorating for a boy or a girl, we will start picking out fabrics!!!! YAY!!

Milestones: I'm still just pumped about being in the second trimester!! Oh, and did I tell you that we went public on Facebook? So basically the whole world knows now. That is an amazing milestone!

more swiffer talk

So remember a loooong time ago when I blogged about my issues with my swiffer wet jet? And I didn't like having to buy the pads and spray refills? And then I was sent the Rubbermaid Reveal? (here and here) Well I really liked the Reveal. For a while. Then the sprayer stopped spraying. Major issue! So I ended up buying buying a new swiffer wet jet. Yes, I got so excited about the Reveal that I tossed my swiffer in the trash. Mistake! So I've been using that new swiffer for a while now.

And? I'm sick of buying the pads and spray refills, yet again. I'm trying a different route this time though. I hopped on etsy to look for reusable pads. That would solve half of the problem.

I found a shop called DetroitKnitter. I found a print that I loved and order a set of two. They have velcro strips and easily stick right to the swiffer. Then you just throw them in the washing machine when you're done!

So if you're annoyed with buying refills all.the.freaking.time then you might want to look for reusable swiffer wet jet pads! Saves lots of money plus it is good for the environment :) Win-win.

I'm currently reading Last Night at Chateau Marmont. I'm only a few chapters in. It is going a bit slow so far so I am hoping that things will pick up soon. Have you read it?

14 week update

How far along: 14 weeks 2 days

Size of baby: about the size of a lemon :) Average size: 3.4 in, 1.5 oz

Total weight gain/loss: approximately down 7 pounds. I promise I'll start gaining soon.

Sleep: Maybe a bit better. I definitely get up a ton to use the bathroom, but I'm able to get comfortable so the quality of sleep is pretty good.

Best moment of the week: Just watching my belly grow every day!

Movement: Still waiting :)

Food cravings: Nothing in particular. Definitely getting hungrier though!

Gender: My guess is still girl, but I got back and forth a lot.

Labor signs: No way!

What I miss: Honestly, I'm not missing anything.

What I'm looking forward to: Finding out the gender!! Getting a doppler so we can listen to the baby's heart beat at home :) Oh, and going to a friend's baby shower this weekend. It will be fun to see all the cute baby stuff!!

Milestones: Nothing really.. hitting 14 weeks is about it.

Other: I think my new prescription is definitely giving me more energy. I feel like I'm way more productive, particularly in the mornings. Hoping that means it is working!

Happy Friday!! I needed something for beginning of this post so I jumped on pinterest to find something I had pinned. Don't you just love it?! It doesn't have anything to do with this post, but... well, you never know :)

Today will be Friday randoms. Because I'm feeling random :)

I had my endocrinologist appointment on Tuesday. Turns out that it is hypothyroidism and I'm now medicated for it. I will be going back every 4 weeks for blood work and to make sure my prescription doesn't need to be adjusted. I can't do anything the easy way ;)

I want to order a prenatal yoga dvd. Does anyone have a recommendation? I would want something beginner/intermediate. I want to get started with that as soon as possible since I'm starting to feel better. I also want to start walking again but want the temps to drop a smidge before I hit the pavement.

I am so so so excited for my Erin Condren life planner to arrive!! I'm so ready for it!

I have two projects on my mind right now. And {gasp} they aren't baby related! First, I am in the beginning stages of putting together my 'home management notebook'. Don't know what I'm talking about? Check out Blue Eyed Bride's post from yesterday. The second project is getting us started on Dave Ramsey's Debt Snowball Plan. We also need to be working on saving saving saving before the baby arrives, but I'm starting us out on a small scale, just to knock out some debt while we can. I'm really excited about this!

You know how I said I was down four pounds at my last appointment? Well I was down three pounds from that at my appointment on Tuesday. I know that could just be because it was two different scales and everything, but it seems crazy that I could be down approximately seven pounds- especially considering how big the belly is suddenly getting! But like I said in my last pregnancy update, my appetite is coming back so that number should be jumping up soon.

I picked up a new product at Target over the weekend and I am absolutely loving it!!

SheaMoisture's Organic Raw Shea Butter Wash w/ Frankincense & Myrrh:

I actually made a noise out loud when I smelled it. I loooooove the smell. I don't know what it is about the smell that I love so much but it is awesome. It is a good creamy wash too. I had a really hard time trying to decide if I wanted to try the wash or lotion first. I will definitely be picking up more of their products!

They seem to have lots of other products including baby products, hair products, shaving products, etc.

I think I want to try their Organic African Black Soap Shea Butter Wash next!!

And their baby products??!?! I won't even get into all that yet :)

13 week update

I decided to post three different pictures because my belly seems to look a bit different in every single picture I take. Belly is definitely moving up!

How far along: 13 weeks 2 days

Size of baby: about the size of a peach :) Average size: 2.9 in, .81 oz

Total weight gain/loss: At my appointment last week I was down 4 pounds.

Sleep: I'm sleeping alright. I'm starting to have trouble getting (and staying) comfortable. I get up two or three times a night.

Best moment of the week: Seeing the baby during the ultrasound! He/She was moving all over the place and it was so much fun to watch!!

Movement: Still too early to feel any movement. I know there is lots of movement happening though, after seeing the ultrasound :) Can't wait to be able to feel it!

Food cravings: None this week. I'm slowly starting to get my appetite back. That is making life much easier.

Gender: Wish we knew!!! I've had a few dreams that it is a girl. Can't wait to find out!

Labor signs: No way!

Belly button in or out: In

What I miss: I would really like to have a big glass of red wine. But I'm doing pretty good at not being miserable at what I can't have/do. I do really miss sleeping on my stomach!

What I'm looking forward to: Finding out the gender!! Feeling movement! Lots of exciting things to look forward to!

Weekly wisdom: Um? I don't know if I have any wisdom for the week?

Milestones: Second trimester :) I know different people consider the second trimester starting at different times. I've decided to proclaim myself as being in my second trimester at 13 weeks. Yay!!

Other: I got the results from my most recent blood work. It shows a vitamin D deficiency. Not surprised by this at all. I'm now taking 2000 iu per day and we'll recheck when we do my glucose test. The other thing they found is that my thyroid levels are elevated. They've referred me to an endocrinologist. I don't have my appointment scheduled yet but I'm hoping to hear from them very soon. I'm a bit nervous about this whole thing but it seems to be a fairly common issue during pregnancy. I'll update on this once I know more.

I had to stop by CVS on my way home from work. I was hoping hoping hoping that they had re-stocked their re-nu saline since I was in there last Sunday.

This week they had it on sale for $7.89 and then you get $6 extra bucks.

PLUS I had a $2.00 manufacture's coupon. That means it is just 5.89 and you get $6 back!! See? I NEEDED to buy this!

I get there and they have restocked! YAY! One little box was sitting on the shelf. So I grab it and a dr pepper and head for checkout.

12w4d ultrasound

We had a doctor's appointment this morning. Everything went perfectly!! Everything is measuring perfectly at 12w4d so we are setting February 4 as the official due date. The heart rate was still in the high 150s. The baby was moving around like crazy! He/She was rolling around and kicking off of stuff and flipping all around. So fun to watch all that action! His/Her favorite position seems to be laying on his/her side and facing my back.

Here are two of the pictures we got today. One is a pretty good side view and one is 3D!

Next appointment is August 24!

Happy Friday everyone!!! Hope you've got a fun weekend planned!

I think I am finally ready to share belly pics.

I even have a bare belly before shot. Gasp.

My before shots were taken just a few days after I found out I was pregnant. I was somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 weeks. Here we go:

Not small by any means... but somewhat flat for the most part...

There you have it! The belly is growing every day! At some point I'll get my picture taking organized and have B take the pictures so I'm not just standing in my "closet" taking pictures of myself in a mirror :)

wardrobe disaster

It is only mid-morning and I have already had a complete wardrobe disaster today.

The less disastrous but still VERY sad thing... my favorite sunglasses broke. I didn't even do anything stupid like drop them or sit on them. I just went to take them off, and one of the arms (is that the right word? doesn't sound right) just fell completely off. I checked- it isn't just missing the screw. The plastic around the screw snapped apart. Boo hoooo. I need new sunglasses.

Now let's move on to the real disaster. The disaster being caused by the approximately 1.5-2" little bean that is growing away in my belly. I officially look fat. Not pregnant. Fat. My middle is expanding BIG TIME. I don't mind that I'm starting to show. Not at all! Especially since we'll be sharing the news pretty soon. But I do mind the fact that my wardrobe is majorly limited. I am stuck in that awful space between regular clothes and maternity. I can still wear my pants with the help of the BeBand I got from Target but it is hard to find regular shirts that are comfortable and/or don't make me look fat.

I do have a couple of maternity tops I got at Old Navy just because they were majorly on sale and because I was filling up my online order to get free shipping. But I can't really wear them yet. I can wear them, but I feel silly doing it. I'm not big enough to wear them.

What should I do? Buy bigger regular clothes? Just give in and wear some maternity clothes? Just wear dresses? Quit my job so I can just stay home in yoga pants all day? HELP! Do you have any tips to help me survive this in-between-sizes time??

Hefner is always (always always always) asleep on his bed in the kitchen when I get home from work in the evenings. I opened the door to head down the hallway and didn't hear him getting out of bed. I assumed he was just napping hardcore and didn't hear me come in. Walk in the kitchen... empty bed. Walk further down the hallway... no pug. Then I notice that the door to the "office" is cracked open (we call it an office but it is in no shape or form an office anymore).

This is what I see from the hallway:

I stopped to take a picture because I didn't want him to jump off the treadmill when I opened the door. (see what I mean? in this picture you can see a treadmill and a ladder... clearly not an office).

He doesn't seem to be going anywhere so I push open the door:

So here is my question. What in the world was he doing on the treadmill? My guess is that he was napping in that sunny spot. I have never seen him on there before and haven't seen him on there again since I took these pictures.

Whatever it was that he was doing, I'm just glad someone is actually using the treadmill!

I can't even put into words how glad I am that today is Friday! I need this weekend like crazy!

I haven't figured out how I want to do my pregnancy posts. Weekly? Monthly? I just don't know. My switch-over day is Saturday, but I don't want to do Saturday posts... maybe I could make Friday my pregnancy post day and I could do it as a review of week X and an intro for week Y? Who knows.

While I work out the details in my crazy mind, I will leave you with two pictures from the ultrasound on Tuesday. These pictures were from 7w3d:

These pictures look way better in person. They scanned too dark and you lose a lot of the details. You get the idea though :) Lots of growth in only a week since the first ultrasound picture in my other post!

Today is the last day of being a 'blueberry'! Tomorrow starts the 'raspberry' week!

Your baby is growing like mad, putting on about a millimeter every day and continuing to straighten out in the trunk. Though you can't feel it yet, baby is moving those little arms, legs and (now only slightly) webbed fingers and toes like crazy.

Would you like an update on what has been keeping me so busy lately??

I'm pregnant!!

Yes, I am pregnant! I'm currently 7 weeks 3 days.

Due date is February 4, 2012!

The ultrasound picture above is from 6 weeks 3 days. We had a bit of a scare last week so we went in for an ultrasound one week before originally scheduled. Everything turned out fine but of course I was still completely worried especially after the miscarriage in March (click for that story). Everything measured right on track and we were able to see and hear the heartbeat (129 bpm).

This morning I went in for what was supposed to be my first appointment. The ultrasound looked great and we heard the heartbeat again (159 bpm)!!!! I think I am starting to calm down a bit.

Obviously it is still super early and anything can happen in the first trimester but after all the support you guys gave me before, I just had to share this exiting news! The way I see it, the more thoughts/prayers/positive vibes/etc coming our way... the better off we will be :)

laundry

I just had a thought. About laundry {how boring}. And it got me wondering if I am wasting a massive amount of time. I'm thinking I absolutely am! Laundry is NOT something I want to waste any time doing... so I need some input.

When clothes come out of the dryer I fold them as I take them out of the dryer and put them in a laundry basket to take upstairs and put away. I put away my clothes and B puts away his clothes. Many of our clothes need to be hung up and put into our closets.....

So, WHY am I wasting time folding those clothes when they are just going to be UNFOLDED and hung up??!

Here is my question for you. Do you hang clothes up right out of the dryer? Do you take your empty hangers to the laundry room? What is your process?? Because clearly mine is dumb.

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!! Mine was just perfect :) We didn't have any big plans so we were able to do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted... and it was just what we needed! Things have been pretty crazy around our house so the relaxing weekend was such a treat. Lots of sleeping in, watching golf, and eating yummy food. That pretty much sums it all up!

So yeah, things have been pretty crazy. I haven't really done much real blogging recently because of that. I think things will calm down (a bit) pretty soon. I am in the process of putting together a big blog post to catch you up on everything but it just isn't ready to post yet. It should go up sometime this week though. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday? We'll see :)

birthday weekend recap

Good morning!! I'm in a great mood today! I can't say that I was when I first woke up this morning... but I am now. Why? Because our house finally has a working air conditioner!!! Friday- no AC. Saturday- no AC. Sunday- no AC. No lie, for a while yesterday it was saying it was 82 degrees in our house!!! Overall we handled it well, but I FOR REAL almost did a cartwheel when B called me a few minutes ago to let me know it has been fixed. Oh my goodness. I can't wait to FREEZE this evening!!

But on to more important things!! Yesterday was my BIRTHDAY!!! While I am excited to celebrate ME, I'm not so excited that I am now 29. Ouch. I think I am going to stay put at this age.

Friday night we went to a cookout/pool party to celebrate B's youngest brother's graduation. It stormed the whole evening so it wasn't much of a pool party, but it was pretty fun. Saturday evening we got all dressed up and went to a faaaaaabulous fancy dinner. We don't do fancy too often, so we both felt spoiled. YUM! B had She Crab Soup and 40 Day Aged New York Strip with Roasted Fingerling Potatoes and Asparagus. I had Peanut Soup (best thing in the whole world) and Signature Crab Cake with Corn and Leek Puree.

Sunday was lazy since the high temp in the house was about to kill us. We did go out for lunch. We had pizza at a cute little pizza shop nearby. We had Cheddar Flat Bread for an appetizer and then we shared the Napolitana pizza- "Fresh tomato and garlic, topped with green onions & mozzarella, and drizzled with olive oil". Holy goodness!

This picture is hard to see because I was taking it from inside the house, through a window screen. If you look closely to the top of the sunflower bloom you can see a pretty little yellow finch (I guess??). It was on the sunflower as I was leaving for work this morning. It's color was so gorgeous!! I hope you'll be able to see it in this bad picture. The bird is right in front of the SUV in the background. It is yellow with black marks on it's head and wings.

It wasn’t good. I was getting out of my car in the parking garage. I was headed into the office and had my hands full of stuff. Including my precious (and very new) iphone.

I'm off at to the lake for a weekend away with the girls! My plan for Friday morning is to sleep in a bit, wake up and gather my {hopefully} packed suitcase and cooler and I am hitting the road! Estimated time of arrival to the lake: noon.

pretty pretty flowers

As I mentioned yesterday, we finally got around to working on the front yard. On a record breaking hot day, nonetheless. I didn't get any great pictures of the whole finished product but I plan to do that once all the plants have "settled in" and are looking good.

We've been keeping a close watch over our little plants and so far everything is looking good. I'm always scared we'll spend a load of money and then everything will die. We're making sure to keep everything well watered so the heat doesn't get to them.

As you can probably tell from the brick background, these first two pictures are before we planted anything. I was trying to figure out where I wanted my sweet sweet strong husband to plant everything :)

This wooden wine crate is now home to green bell pepper and hot banana pepper plants!

This one isn't actually new but I wanted to share because it has been growing wildly recently!! This picture doesn't really show it's full beauty. So fluffy and such pretty yellow blooms!

Ohhh this shot is of my sunflower. It is approximately my height now. Not quite ready to bloom but I am SO so so so excited every day to watch the progress. I can't wait to catch pictures of the bloom! This isn't the best picture because... to take it, I had to raise my iphone up over my head since I can't actually see the bloom when I'm standing on the ground :) HA!

These little cuties will be wave petunias. Most likely they will be going wild soon because they are growing like crazy. They're in wooden planters that my dad made for us. We have two of them on the ledge of the front porch. I can't wait until the bloom start bursting open!

First things first, Happy June! Also known as my BIRTHDAY month!!! {june 12th, for all of you coordinating gifts to be sent! HA!} June is one of my very favorite months so I am super happy about it's arrival!

Last night B and I fought the extreme Virginia heat and planted loads of plants and flowers. We also {ummm, and by "we" I mean "B"} spread new mulch in both of the mulch beds in front of the house. I'm loving that our front yard is finally summer ready! We didn't stick with any kind of color theme like I usually try to do. We went colorful and bright :) I love it! Pictures are coming before too long!

Yeah, I know it isn't the weekend yet.... but ohmyfreakinggoodness it is so close! It is concert weekend!

{and by "hanging out with" i mean that he will be on stage and i will be in the audience... but in my mind we're hanging out. and he is singing just for me}

The festival includes three shows on Friday and six shows on Saturday. There are some other mini-shows on other stages but a total of nine on the main stage.

You may remember that we went to see Amos Lee a little over a year ago. You can find that post here. It was amazing and I absolutely can't wait to see him again!!!

Happy Tuesday! Today I want to share a couple of new purchases. Both were insane deals and I'm really loving them.

I am totally in love with this top. It is so pretty and girly and delicate. It is really sheer as you can see in the picture, so it really flows. The jeans I want to wear this top with (flare leg) need to be tailored so I'm having to hold off on wearing it for now... but I love it.

Wow, having this iphone is going to greatly increase the amount of pictures I have for my blog posts! I am absolutely loving the picture quality and also all the phone editing tools. In love.

Thursday we had dinner and drinks with some friends to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Love this shot I got of my margarita:

Saturday I worked on out front porch. I got all the gross pollen off of everything and also added a rug. The rug is from Ballard Designs and had been in my office until this weekend. I love having the rug out there. Here's a peek at what the porch looks like:

Sunday morning I was up early to get ready for brunch with my mom. Here's my outfit for the occasion. You can't really see it in this picture but I just have to tell you about it anyway... The necklace I am wearing belonged to my great-grandmother (mom's mom's mom). I had it doubled and then fastened it with a pin that belonged to my grandmother (dad's mom). I also had my grandmother's (mom's mom) wedding band stacked with my engagement ring and wedding band. Very cool jewelry for Mother's Day!

detoxifying foot bath

We have this trash pile in our basement. It has been sitting there for a couple of months because we've been working on cleaning out and de-cluttering all the "stuff" in our basement. One of the items in the trash pile is my foot bath. I have had it for years and years but never really use it. Tonight I am totally getting the foot bath out of the trash pile because I found something great online that I want to try. {lesson learned- clear out trash pile immediately or you will slowly pull all of your crap back out and put it in the keep pile!}

I found this great little detoxifying foot bath "recipe" online. I can't wait to try it out!!

things you'll need:

Foot bath or plastic container big enough to hold your feet.

Hot water

Epsom salts

Ginger (optional)

Tea bags (optional)

Mustard powder (optional)

Cayenne pepper (optional)

Essential oils (optional)

Apple cider vinegar (optional)

Honey (optional)

Vanilla extract (optional)

Sweet almond oil (optional)

Loofah or foot brush

Towel

Foot moisturizing cream

instructions:

Pour hot water into a small foot bath or a plastic container big enough to hold your feet comfortably.

Add one cup of Epsom salts for every 60 lbs. of body weight. This is the basis for every detox foot bath.

Add two tbsp. of ginger or two unopened tea bags into your bath, if you are feeling tired. Both ginger and tea have rejuvenating qualities. Use two tbsp. mustard powder and Cayenne powder to raise core body temperature and get rid of colds and chills. This will cause you to sweat more and expel more toxins.

Add one to two tbsp. of essential oils to moisturize dry skin on your feet. Two to three cups of apple cider vinegar in your foot bath will also reduce body acidity. To get rid of bacteria on your feet, add one tsp of honey, vanilla extract and sweet almond oil.

Stir all the ingredients you have chosen into your foot bath. Let your feet soak in the water mixture for 30 minutes.

Scrub your feet with a loofah or foot brush to get rid of any dead skin. Dry your feet using a soft towel and add foot moisturizing cream right away, so that it can soak in your opened pores.

I've decided to start posting my monthly goals at the start of each month, along with my results at the end of each month. Lots of bloggers do this (elefantitas alegres inspired me to start) and I think I would really benefit from joining in!

Health/Fitness:

-exercise at least 15/31 days. This can be anything- walking, hiking, yoga, kickboxing, kinect, etc.

-start using my iphone to track food/exercise with sparkpeople.

Home/Life:

-plant flowers and plants in pots on porch and in mulch beds.

-purchase and spread new mulch in the mulch beds in front of our house.

-get pregnant. (would this go under "health" or "home/life"??... either way it is on my list)

-continue using coupons and saving loads of money at Kroger & CVS.

-keep up with the laundry. this is an endless battle for me.

-read at least two books, start to finish.

(i will probably edit these a bit over the next few days)

It's about time for a random catch-up post from me, don't you think? I mean, seriously. It isn't even that I've had a shortage of things to blog about, I just haven't blogged! I really need to get my shit together! So anyway... random updates.

Easter weekend was lovely! We saw Water for Elephants on Friday night. It was wonderful. Obviously not as fabulous as the book, but wonderful nonetheless.

We're still exercising a ton! B is doing a better job than me but isn't that to be expected? He's rocking and rolling with his workouts. I'm doing alright.

After work today I'm going shopping for a tiara. And maybe a new pair of pretty silk pajamas. I'll let you take a guess what that is for!

My parents are on a cruise so we're keeping Penny all week! She's a Boston Terrier and just precious. H and her have a love/hate relationship. Right now they love each other :)

Sometime soon we will be planting all of our spring flowers and getting the mulch beds back to tip top shape! We received a gorgeous bright gerber daisy plant from the Easter Bunny on Sunday and it has given us extra motivation to get everything fixed up.

Health wise I am doing good. Everything seems to be back to normal after all the m/c stuff and we have the go-ahead from my doctor to start trying again. Actually we got the "go-ahead" over a month ago. {not pregnant, in case you were wondering}.

I'm on an American Idol strike. My Paul went home so now I don't care at all. Boooo. I honestly didn't want him to win... but I miss him so. :(

We've got some concerts coming up in the next few weeks. Amos Lee one weekend and James Taylor the next!!

We had to replace B's Xbox and we decided to get the Xbox/Kinect bundle. So fun!!

Okay, that is all for today! I really do have good intentions to get back to blogging. I swear!

hair update

I didn't update you after I had my hair done! Ooops!

Maybe it is because I am SOOOOOOO SAD about what happened to me on Wednesday. Terrible terrible thing. Yeah..... I'm over-exaggerating a bit. It really isn't a big deal at all- but it kinda hurt my feelings.

I got pulled over. I got my very FIRST speeding ticket of my whole entire life. :( Totally bummed.

Moving on...

So yeah, I got my hair cut and colored! My hair was being totally stubborn and did NOT want to lighten up. So instead of leaving there with light brown hair and light brown/blond highlights.. I have medium brown hair and reddish/brownish highlights. I definitely still like the way it turned out but it isn't like the Minka Kelly pictures. I'm going back in four weeks though and I will go lighter then. She cut off three inches and added layers. It is still really long though!

Heeeeeeey! Sorry it has been so long since I last updated! I have been out of control busy! Work has been busy plus I am spending practically all my free time exercising or doing something active. We are on a roll with the fitness thing! I'll have to post about that sometime soon.

You may have already seen this on twitter, but here is a picture of my new springy nail polish. I am looooving the creamy pastel colors that are everywhere this spring!! This one is Gum Drop by Revlon. Oh so pretty!

This morning I had an optometrist appointment. It took forrrrever. Of course {because I apparently can't go to a doctor's appointment and have everything be good and healthy} my eyes have gotten worse. Imagine that. So my prescription has changed. To make things even better {extreme sarcasm} I have some risk factor of glaucoma. Yup, glaucoma. So I have to go back next week {....yeah} for some stupid test. I have to watch something and click something when I see things.... I don't know- but I do know that I am not excited about it.

Better news- I have my hair appointment right after work today!! Remember the Minka Kelly pictures I posted? That is what I'm having done!!! So exciting! I just took a couple of quick pictures to use as my "before" pics. Just so you can see the length and color. Not that they are high quality pictures but you get the idea :)

Ya'll. I have been trying to get a new post on my blog since I posted last but I just couldn't find the words!

First and most important, a HUGE thank you to every single person who commented on my last post, sent me emails, and reached out on twitter. You really can't even imagine how much that means to me. I keep going back and reading everything over and over because the words were just so sweet. I appreciate it so much.

Other than wanting to thank you girls... I really haven't had anything to share on my blog. I have wanted to come up with something fun to talk about, a pretty picture to share, something. But I've got nothing. I haven't had too much going on. Just resting, recovering, and trying to stay as positive as possible. Not the easiest of things to do... but I am trying. Things are going pretty well, overall. I have a follow up appointment on Thursday and I am hoping and praying that everything goes well.

As for the weekend... watched a movie, played golf, took a bubble bath, had some wine, bought some candles. It sounds eventful when I type it out but I really didn't feel busy while it was all happening. We've really just been laying low and staying at home for the most part.

Whew. I am glad there is going to be a new blog post. I couldn't stand that my terrible sad and depressing post was right there- front and center. I think it pulled down the mood of the blog, don't you think ;)

Basically the point to this post is: I'm still alive and doing okay. Blogging will hopefully go back to normal now. Starting with my next post. HA!

I have been going back and forth about writing this post. However, I have decided that I need to. I am NOT a good communicator. Did you know that about me? I like to ignore problems and avoid discussing things that I don’t want to discuss. I know this is so unhealthy. So here I am. Talking about something that I don’t want to talk about. Something that hurts. And sucks.

Do you know what the dirtiest of all dirty words is? Miscarriage. I wish the word didn’t even exist. I wish there was no need for a terrible word like that. Unfortunately, though… there is.

This morning I had a doctor’s appointment. I had an ultrasound at 7:30 and an appointment with my doctor at 8. He confirmed what I feared.

When I went to my first ultrasound last Thursday I thought I was 7 weeks 1 day. I was only measuring at 6 weeks and there was no sign of a heartbeat. Basically I was told that I was either too early to see a heartbeat or that I was actually 7 weeks but that my pregnancy stopped progressing at 6 weeks. This morning I could tell that my worst fear was true. Today I should be 8 weeks 1 day but everything measured at 6 weeks. No growth from last week. No heartbeat. No baby.

What is worse than hearing this news? Sitting around and waiting for a miscarriage to begin. I have decided that if possible, I want to let things happen naturally. If that doesn’t work or if I find it is too hard to sit around and wait then I will contact my doctor to schedule a D&C. I want to avoid that if possible but I know that the next few weeks are going to be very difficult and I don’t know how exactly I will handle the waiting.

To make things worse, my hCG levels are so high that I am still experiencing pregnancy symptoms. Baby books don’t tell you how f*cking terrible it is to experience morning sickness while you are dealing with the emotional struggle of a miscarriage. This would be bad enough even if my pants fit and I didn’t feel like puking all day long. Hopefully those hormone levels will decrease pretty fast so I can begin to feel “normal” .

So that is an update on me. I know my blog had gotten pretty quiet during the last month or so. Things have been pretty crazy in my life! Partially good-crazy and partially bad-crazy. I wish I was here announcing a pregnancy instead of announcing the loss of one.

I almost posted something cheery and “normal” today. But this is a really big deal and I don’t want to pretend like it isn’t happening. This will definitely always be a part of me.

Like I said in an email to a group of friends this morning: please don't feel like you need to respond to this. I know it is always so difficult to find the right words in this type of situation. I just wanted to get this out in the open and more than anything, I just wanted to type it out as a sort of therapy for myself. Thanks for reading.

gahhhh blogging. i love it so- but why does it sometimes feel like such a chore. i love reading all of your blogs.... i just haven't had anything to share around here. but i'm still around, so don't give up on me.

when i was outside with h this morning i looked down and noticed something very exciting! in the middle of one of our mulch beds {which look to be covered in more dry leaves than mulch...} there is a tiny little green plant popping up through the earth!! my untrained eye is guessing that it is an iris.

s p r i n g {shhh... don't scare it off} might really be on it's way!!!

new furniture

Hello! Hope you're Tuesday is going well so far! Mine had a somewhat rough start but now I'm on a roll and I'm hoping the work day just scoots on by so that I can get home!

Last night we decided to go look at some furniture. We have a list {i think everyone does} of things we need to buy. You know... some big things, some small things... just a list of "one of these days we should really buy a new____".

Long story short we ended up buying a new couch and a new bed! Not bad for going shopping on a whim! I don't have a picture of the bed but I do have a picture of the couch though!! {well, not the right color though...}

Do you use google reader? I feel like tons of people do.

I tried it way back but didn't like reading blogs from the reader page...

I liked seeing the ACTUAL blog.

Know what I mean?

THEN I found out about the google reader "next" button. Do you know what I am talking about?

It goes in your favorites toolbar and you can see it anytime you have your web browser open. If you click on that button it takes you to your next unread blog.... but it takes you to the ACTUAL blog! So you can see everything, leave comments, etc. Then you just keep hitting "next" to move through your unread blogger items.

Maybe everyone already knows about this but I have been meaning to blog about it for months and months because it has totally changed my blog reading!! I couldn't survive without it now!

So how do you get that button onto your toolbar? Simple!

In reader, go to "settings" at the top right. Click on "reader settings". (see below)

Then in the "goodies" tab find the "next" button (see below... the bottom arrow). It tells you to just drag it up into your toolbar (see below... the top arrow)

Now you can click on that button at any time and go to your next unread item in reader! Like I said before, I'm sure I am the last person on earth to know about this but I had to share it just in case.

Weight Watchers Wednesday!

So, yeah. I only lost .4

But I am okay with that. Sort of.

The reason I say that is because

at one point earlier in the week the scale was showing a three pound gain!! YIKES! But apparently that was a water weight situation because it disappeared and left me at .4 down from last week's weight.

Even with the pitiful .4 loss that bumps me up to 7 lbs gone since I started on January 3rd. YAY!!

There are absolutely things I need to work on:

keep with with my points each day. not just guess.
MOVE more. exercise exercise exercise!
drink more WATER.
Watch my portion sizes

Same old, same old really.... but they are things I need to remember. Weight watchers is simple, but it is hard. Or however that saying goes.
